We will train you

to use studio and field production equipment.

Training Classes

No previous television production experience is necessary. Trainees are required to have the intent to produce non-commercial programming to play on Channel 13. All classes are held at the PEGASYS studio, located at 612 West Green Street in Downtown Ithaca.

Residents of the City of Ithaca, the Town of Ithaca, and the Village of Cayuga Heights may train to use all PEGASYS facilities for free. Residents of all other Tompkins County municipalities must pay an annual fee of $20 to participate in training; paying this fee also entitles them to use PEGASYS facilities.

Basic Studio Television Production

Learn how to operate one of the two PEGASYS television studios. All students will assist in the production of a television program to air on Channel 13.

This class consists of three sessions, each two hours in duration.
The class is only available to groups of three or more. If any single person or pair of individuals wish to take this class, we may place them on a waiting list until we have gathered the names of at least three participants.

Basic Portable Video Production

Learn to use our digital camcorders and desktop editors. Completion of this course requires attendance at four two-hour sessions, plus completion of two homework assignments.

Completing a PEGASYS Training Course Entitles You To Reserve And Use PEGASYS Equipment

All equipment is reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those who complete the appropriate studio training course (either the main studio or the mini studio) will be entitled to use that studio during regular PEGASYS hours.
Those who complete the appropriate portable equipment training course will be entitled to reserve and check out PEGASYS camcorders, laptop editors, and other equipment they have been trained to use. (They may also be entitled to reserve and use one of the digital editing systems in the PEGASYS building, for use during regular PEGASYS hours.) Portable equipment (cameras and accessories that are intended to be operated outside the PEGASYS building) can be taken to any location in Tompkins County. They are not allowed to be taken oustide of Tompkins County.
